Thousands of struggling New Zealanders have been given a timely helping hand by Colgate-Palmolive, and Countdown shoppers.
With winter biting, Colgate-Palmolive has donated more than 10,000 toiletries and household cleaning items to nine Salvation Army food banks. It is the third year Colgate-Palmolive has run the 2-week promotion in Countdown stores.
The Salvation Army food banks in Manukau, Whangarei, Napier, Hamilton, Porirua, Hutt City, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin are receiving the goods to distribute to clients.
Jono Bell, Territorial Director of The Salvation Army’s Community Ministries says the items are essential to help people stay healthy in the winter period. These include personal and oral hygiene items, along with cleaning products for the home.
“We’re grateful that Colgate-Palmolive recognises the need that is there for families struggling to juggle the various demands of keeping their whanau warm and fed during the cold winter months,” he says. “These donations allow people to use products they may otherwise have to leave off the shopping list because they simply can’t afford them.”
Colgate-Palmolive also donated $10,000 to help vulnerable mothers and their children experiencing homelessness through a Salvation Army transitional housing programme.
